The SK2 "Embla" - A sophisticated hunting knife with a beautiful and durable desert ironwood handle. Based on the popular SK1 "Jarl", but with a blade design more towards hunting. The blade is made of our well balanced Lam. CoS steel, renowned for its ability to take and keep an excellent edge. A convex edge, the sharpest/strongest edge construction we know of, and the oldest in human history. Stainless steel finger guard, and broad protruding tang. Comes with a black open dangler-type leather sheath. The design of this beautiful hunting knife follows the principles of Swedish minimalism- that the design should be simple, neat and functional.
Please note: Being an organic material, there are variations in shade and pattern of the wooden handle. Each one is unique.
The handle can be treated with furniture or wood polish, gun stock oil or other liquids containing thinners and linseed oil.
How to Use Your Fallkniven SK2L Embla Fixed Blade Knife
The Fallkniven SK2L Embla knife is for hunters and other knife enthusiasts looking for a fixed blade option. Here are ways on how to use this knife properly:
- The SK2L is a handy knife, ideal for hunting, camping, or just your everyday carry knife.
- Place the knife on your strong or dominant side when carrying it. For instance, if you usually use the knife with your right hand, move the blade on this side.
- Some people choose their non-dominant or weak side when carrying the knife. In this instance, training is essential. It helps establish the preference until you become comfortable with it.
- There are different ways to carry the SK2L Embla. One is to place it inside your bag or through a clip-on, which keeps the knife out of sight until you need it. This method is best when walking or hiking. Another is through a drop leg or dangle configuration. Basically, you just let the sheath and knife dangle loosely off your hip.
- You can keep the knife outside your waistband, which is a common and often preferred method. It is because the sheath is exposed, giving you quick access.
- SK2L Embla has a great handle and just the right size for a proper grip. Keep it dry before using, especially when you are hunting while it is raining or during the winter.
- When it is time to sharpen the blade, move it against the sharpener or whetstone in circular motions. Laminated cobalt steel is easy to work with, so resharpening should not take more than a few minutes.
Tips for Maintaining the SK2L Embla
The SK2L Embla is much sturdier than other hunting knives. However, it can lose its sharpness over time, especially if you frequently use it. With its excellent edge, it is easy to favour this knife over the others you may own.
Constant use will eventually cause its strong edge construction to fade. No worries because the following tips can give the SK2L Embla its fine and razor-sharp blade again:
- The blade is made of laminated cobalt steel, which provides it with an incredible edge. But when the blade is no longer as sharp as before, you can easily fix it with the Fallkniven DC4 combination whetstones.
- Take care of the knife by treating it with the right product. You can choose your preferred furniture polish for the handle, which is made of desert ironwood. If you have none available, other liquids that contain linseed oil and thinner will do, including gun stock oil.
- When not in use, we recommend that you keep the SK2L in its leather sheath.
- Always clean the knife after use, especially after you have just butchered or skinned any animal.
The Fallkniven SK2L Embla uses one of the best steel materials in the world. Laminate cobalt steel is known for its ability to stay in excellent condition.
Users, however, should remember that it is a hunting knife. It can be used for other cutting and slicing tasks, but stay away from frozen meat. Exposure to cold can make the blade brittle.
