This knife is suitable for a broad range of uses. The short, fairly slender blade works well for filleting, cutting and cleaning fish. The short blade makes the knife something of a favourite in the kitchen, it cuts very quickly and precisely.
F2, F3 and F4 are a new concept in high-quality knives intended for, butchering animals and processing fish. They are based on the well shaped, secure F handle, and for it we have developed three blade shapes, each adapted to its special purpose. Unlike many other manufacturers we persist in using really good edging steel and even if it leads to products that are 5 or 10 times more expensive, we feel that the concept is right. A cheap dressing knife is characterised by poor edge retention, leading to it fairly soon being honed to destruction, while a knife from us can be used for decades. Not only does this lead to good overall economy, but also offers satisfaction and safety at work. Naturally, it need not be put away after the hunting, but can also serve its purpose in the kitchen. The knives are supplied with a zytel edge protector. The best, simplest and quickest way to sharpen them is with a diamond whetstone or diamond sharpening steel: see our products DC4 and D12.
How to Use Your Fallkniven F2Z Satin Blade Knife w/ Zytel Sheath
The Fallkniven F2Z is a favourite kitchen knife for filleting and cleaning fish. It is sharp enough to produce precise cuts in quick motions. This knife can also be used for butchering and other simple cutting jobs when preparing food.
To get the best out of your F2Z, a little bit of care and maintenance is required. Here are the best ways to keep it sharp and useful for years:
- The Fallkniven F2Z is made of laminated VG10, which is a strong and resilient type of steel. But you should keep it dry after washing to avoid any rusting.
- Wash it by hand. The dishwasher may seem a convenient option, but it can damage the blade during the wash cycle.
- Make sure the knife is clean before storing it in a cool, dry place as well.
- This knife should be stored properly. And the storage area does not include your kitchen sink. You should never leave it there because it is not only dangerous, but it’s also a bad place for your knife.
- It is also not a good idea to keep the F2Z in your utensils drawer. It is never a good idea to throw this super-sharp knife with other tools you have. Aside from the danger, the blade can get scratched or dented when you have other heavy utensils on top of it.
- When cutting, use a cutting board – not your benchtop. Your counters may be hard and durable, but these solid surfaces, such as granite and marble, are too hard for the f2Z. Use a wood cutting board, which will not affect the knife’s blade.
Aside from the tips for general use and storage above, you should also keep your knife sharp. There are two things that you must do: hone and sharpen. Although some people may use these two terms interchangeably, they have very different meanings.
When you hone the knife, you basically pay attention to its already sharp edge. Fallkniven knives are well-made and can outlast any cheap brand you may have. However, with continuous use, the edge can become rough. Honing will solve this issue when you polish the edge, which effectively reduces friction.
On the other hand, sharpening is exactly what it suggests. When your knife becomes dull, you will need to resharpen it so that it will cut through the material better.
Maintaining the sharpness and efficiency of your Fallkniven F2Z is easy with existing Fallkniven whetstones and sharpening steels. Your best options include:
- DC4 Diamond Whetstone: Because of the convex edge of the F2Z, it works well with the DC4 diamond whetstone. This product comes with two sides, namely ceramic and diamond. Use the diamond side when your knife is dull. For honing or de-burring the edge ever so lightly, go with the ceramic stone.
- DC12 Diamond Sharpening Steel: This tool is a rod with fine diamonds that can sharpen your kitchen knife readily. It is coated with titanium aluminium nitride for enhanced durability. Use the sharpener for your F2Z and a ceramic stone after for a long-term edge.
Keep your knife clean, dry, and sharpened to prolong its life and ensure exceptional performance.
