There are survival knives, and then there are survival knives for the professional user. Our models F1, S1 and A1 have provided exceptional service for more than twenty years and due to their outstanding quality and durability will continue to do so for many years to come. Our desire to strive for continual improvement has led us to develop the new Pro Series which takes the concept of the survival knife to unimaginable heights of quality and durability.
We began developing these impressive new knives in 2010 and five years later, we’re able to offer three survival knives which set the benchmark for survival knife manufacture the world over – the Pro series. To put it simply a knife is a blade and a handle. But if this vital tool is to remain strong and stay sharp you have to add fairly decent materials. If you then claim to call a knife “professional” you take on a responsibility to the user to raise the bar above what is normal. This is how it is with the Pro series.
Pro series of F1, S1 and A1 differs from its predecessors in the following important details:
* The laminated VG10 steel is replaced with a laminate cobalt steel (lam. CoS) which, amongst other things, ensures a durable edge and improved edge retention.
* The blades are consistently thicker causing an increased torsional rigidity - they will withstand even greater external forces than before.
* The tapered tang is wider and thicker and thus significantly stronger.
* The cross guard is made of stainless steel and permanently mounted to the tang.
* The convex edge has been refined to improve the cutting properties.
* The Zytel sheaths are redesigned meaning they are more durable and are better suited to the Molle attachment system.
Understandably these knives fall into a higher price category. However, considering the unparalleled quality they are by no means over-priced. A professional survival knife should be able to be relied upon in the all-weather and we really mean all weather. It should also be pleasant, safe and comfortable to handle whether it’s fine or rough work, summer heat or winter cold. We have considered everything in the design of this quite superb knife and we, therefore, offer a 10 year warranty on materials and workmanship.
How to Use Your Fallkniven A1 Pro 10 Satin Blade Knife w/ Zytel Sheath
The Fallkniven A1 Pro 10 is a military survival knife designed for real professionals looking for a durable and reliable tool. It is made of laminated cobalt steel known to withstand the harshest possible conditions in its environment.
But just like any tool you have, your A1 Pro 10 also requires a little bit of care and maintenance. Some effective tips will allow this knife to survive for many years to come. You can find them below:
Storage
- Avoid leaving the knife in the sheath for a long time. Let the metal breathe; otherwise, condensed moisture can quickly gather in the sheath body. It does not matter if you store the sheath in a well-ventilated area. It will still accumulate moisture, which will affect the quality of the A1 Pro 10.
- To avoid any pitting or rusting, store the knife properly. You can keep it near the sheath, but not in it unless it is temporary. The room should be dry with constant or stable temperature.
Blade Care and Maintenance
- The biggest concern with blade steel is corrosion. Even the best material can corrode if the owner does not know how to properly take care of the knife. Also, there is no absolute steel that is corrosion-proof. With A1 Pro 10, the material used is laminate cobalt steel (lam. CoS), an upgrade from the original VG10 steel. This type of steel is more durable with better edge retention. However, rusting can become an issue if you leave it in a wet environment.
- Make sure that you clean the knife before storing it and after using it. Never let it sit in an area with high moisture. Before keeping the knife, wipe it to get rid of any excess water, especially if you do not plan to use it anytime soon.
Sharpening and Honing
- Make honing a habit for your knife’s own good. Sharpening the A1 Pro 10 is easy with any Fallkniven whetstone. However, if you want the best results, go for DC4, which has two sides: diamond and ceramic. Although this knife is robust, it may require realignment from time to time. If you have just used it for hunting or against a hard object, you need to use the whetstone to eliminate any distortion that may have occurred.
- Honing can be performed on a daily basis if you often use your knife. Meanwhile, you can sharpen your A1 Pro 10 once every 10 to 12 months.
Handle
- The Fallkniven A1 Pro 10 uses Thermorun, an olefin-based thermoplastic elastomer, as the handle material. It is easy to maintain and care for. When soiled, you only need to wash it with water and make sure it is completely dry before storing it. You can use a dry cloth to remove droplets of water.
Sheath
- This knife uses a Zytel sheath, which is waterproof. It’s indeed a great military knife to take with you outdoors. The sheath itself requires no care, but you may want to do some occasional wiping. This way, the excess oils will not attract dust, which can be difficult to remove.
Follow these simple tips to keep your Fallkniven A1 Pro 10 clean, dry, and sharp for a long time.
